We are introducing to our catalogue many new Asters for 2022. They are such wonderful plants for late summer and into autumn. They are much loved by the bees and butterflies. We mostly sell the n.a. types as they are not prone to mildew and are less fussy in general. In their natural habitat they grow in moist prairies and meadows, open woodlands, etc. They come in a variety of colours and we have tried to choose some from each colour group. The plants need good air circulation and like as much sun as possible. They like to be divided regularly as otherwise the plant dies off in the centre, simply dig it up and divide and replant. This will reinvigorate the plant.
One of the loveliest Salvia is S. Amante. It is a new colour break for S. guarantica and as you can see it is a fuschia pink. They do very well in the ground or indeed in pots, but if grown in a pot best to use John Innes No 3 as it is a soil based compost. They will also need feeding on a regular basis, you can use tomato food or long term feeds like Osmocote.
They flower from about mid May into autumn, and as I write this it is November and the plant is still flowering. They do however need some protection from frost.
